Has no one seen this movie?

I liked it, however I have not read the books and so I was not sure what to expect. I thought that it was visually stunning and the story despite being very depressing, was fun and had little bits of black humor Charles Adams style. Jim Carrey was good, if you like him then you should like this movie.

One of my best friends Lisa has been having a really rough week so I kidnapped her and took her to this film last night. She hadn't laughed all week but she was crying because she was laughing so hard! We have been giggling over the "Happy Little Elf" all day!
Great film visually! Loved the score! Awesome story! And the cameos!!! w00t!!
I'm buying this when it hits DVD.

The kdis and I saw this over the new year holiday in Phoenix... I liked it alot, however, it is deffinetly not a childs movie. it is a little bit scary. But very visual. the story line was a bit dreary and depressing but it is a great flick!!!

So.... has anybody here read the books? I'm reading them and I"m scared that the movies will not capture the essence of the books. I'd like to hear the opinion of somebody who has both read and seen. :) Prefereably someone who, like me, only likes Jim Carrey in his serious roles and not when he's playing "Jim Carrey" as he does in all his comedies... I'm just so scared he'll ruin it! AGH!

I have not read the books but Jim Carrey I think did a good job the character was a bit freakish.. funny in a way but the kind of person who when you meet them the just FREAK you out the kind of person who you know they are not right in the head!!!!

I want to read the books, but I need to find the time. I've heard the movie actually lives up to the books.
