Tonight, I finished the upper body armor. Over the last few days I got it painted and such. Got the shoulder pauldrons hot-glued on with some metal hinges. Though the paint-job could use some work, it'll do for my party this Saturday. The paint bled through a bit because I was impatient and didn't use a little caulk on the edges. That works wonders, but I just didn't have any on hand, and I hoped it wouldn't bleed. As you can see, it did. I will be repainting it after the party.

Does it look alright, for now, to the experts out there?

Quick shot of me at the party tonight. Sort of a first run for the Vader suit. Sorry for the bad quality. This is the flabbergasted / amazed phone picture my brother-in-law took the second I stepped into the room. He posted it on Facebook, so it's the first I have. Some higher quality ones to follow when I can get them off the Nikon.

A big thanks to Jeff who spent a good deal of time with me today teaching me some wiring stuff and helping me make some light covers and getting a very nice chestbox finished up. Kudos to you, mate, you are the supreme!

Some better quality shots.

Need to add the cod-piece dimple, secure the belt to it with some velcro when I put it on, and do a better securing of the amplifier, as well as the chestbox. Should be good to go soon!

Looks great. You can see at the effort you have put in to it.

Thanks! It is definitely coming along. I made even more modifications today to the helmet; redid the straps, breather, added some cushioning to the straps, etc. I am adding lashes to the armor for better stability next, and doing some more work to the chest box... Getting close. Very close.

Impressive! Most impressive! Way to go, DarthDietrich! We can never have too many Vaders. He's our most popular character and we should have Lord Vader at every event.

What color did you use for the gunmetal on the chest armor? It may just be the lighting in the pics, but it seems really bright to me.

With the flash and the lighting in the room, it does look a bit bright. Also, in the first (just armor) picture, it is taken with a bright overhead fluorescent light shining directly down on it, so it looks bright there too. And perhaps, it is a bit too bright, but I used what is touted on the can as "Metallic Grey." Regardless, after Halloween, I am completely redoing the paint on the armor. There's not even a clear coat like I wanted. So - it is perhaps a bit bright, but those pictures make it look much much brighter than it is.

Your Vader looks awesome.

These blast points — too accurate for sandpeople. Only imperial stormtroopers are so precise

I did just notice the helmet looks like it's a rubies, is that an unmodified rubies hemlet? if so you may need to do a few modifications to it to get it up to Legion standards.

Yes, what Kirk said. Plus the belt and "Sith diaper" as my daughters like to call it, will need more work too. However that's coming from a 501st Vader geek like me! you're going to knock the socks off everyone for Halloween!!

Thanks everyone. Yeah, the helmet is a Rubies. It isn't completely unmodified, as it's been painted, but yes, the nose part needs the standard reworking, and the lenses need to be redone. As far as I can read, that is all that is needed to be in the minimum standard. Also, I am aware the cod-piece just isn't complete - I obviously do not have the dimple. I just don't have any more money to work on it right now, and don't want to destroy the cod-piece I made to try to make a dimple that looks a bit silly anyway. I am a bit confused as to how and where the belt needs work; it matches the Sith Lord minimum standards as I have read them...

I'm okay with just being on the outskirts of the "club" for now. Hopefully I can get a good enough suit for entrance sometime in the future. It's funny, and not a little sad, to spend $500+ on something and still not have a nice enough outfit to get in, but oh well. :|

Things to work on when I can (in order):

Re-worked cod-piece
Custom, from-scratch chest box
Neck piece
Repainting chest armor
Helmet work (nose job, lenses)

I should be able to gain entrance once these things are completed. Thanks for the awesome comments, gang.

On another note, I went to my son's Taekwondo school's Halloween party last night as a special guest of honor. I wore the suit for just about 2 hours straight. It was awesome and stood up to a lot of abuse (there was a "dueling with Vader" segment where all the kids got to lightsaber fight me for 30 seconds each - which was a lot of kids). It was really a hit, and the suit definitely withstood some good scrutiny. I am please for now, for sure!
