Thinking about molding a friends classic action tie helmet (the only movie size tie helmet made). Seeing what interest there would be. I would need about 5-people to go in $100. Those who went in would get a complete tie helmet kit, $100 is a good deal for a movie sized tie helmet. I can also make the lenses for it.

When would you be doing this? I'd be interested but probably couldn't raise the cash until after Christmas sometime

Of course not. He's just continuing the legacy of an out-of-print prop-replica.

Depending on when you do the run, I might be interested. As with everyone else I'll need to work with finances, but I might have money for it in a couple of months.

Technically he's not. The replica prop community considers recasting the act of making molds of another "fan" artist's work, casting up copies, and selling it. The replica prop and costuming community generally frowns on this. However, making molds of a licensed, out-of-production piece (such as this) or a studio original prop is NOT frowned upon by the replica props and costuming community. Of course, there may be legal issues aside from "recasting", but what Jeff is doing with this piece is (within the replica prop and costume community) viewed as completely acceptable - and he's not the first to do this particular piece.

The above is an example why I consider the whole "recasting" thing to be a double-standard. It's ok to recast studio stuff, or licensed pieces, but not ok to recast a fan-produced piece that, to be honest, is a rip-off of the studio's original work anyway.

OK, back on topic, good luck with this project Jeff! Wish I could jump in, but right now, the $ has to go other places.

A question: What would the material/construction be? Fiberglass, rotocast resin, vacuformed, etc...

Yes i'm recasting an out of production piece. There certantly is a double standard, but what can you do. I'm hoping the helmet would be used to get more people in the garrison or allow people to make an additional costume. The tie pilot Costume is a lot less than most others, so it's a better alternitive for people who don't have a ton of money to put into a costume. I wouldn't be doing it till after Christmas, Probably mid Jan.

If it's mid Jan I'm in. I'll have enough time to save up some cash by then :)

I'm interested. A TIE pilot may be what I need to do until I can get my primary costume.

Jeff does nice work, I am interested also. Jeff, how about the rest of the TIE armor?

The chest box mold is actually finished but i have not made one yet. The armor is probably going to take a some work and there are a couple of people that will be working on that.
I'm thinking about doing this the first of February, hopefully i'll be caught up from the Christmas shopping sprees!

Well I'll be in the area by then and it would be great to start converting my IC over to a TI. I would be in, of course I'd like to see pics of the finished bucket when your ready to start selling. :)
