Well I got the okay from the detachment leader about the stripe color, so I guess I'll be trying to get things painted this weekend/week. We're supposed to be having partly cloudy weather near 40 degrees, so If I heat my garage and wear a mask it should be paintable weather. Maybe I can get the bucket black. And the clear coat on the arm stripes.

EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about the "Weekend Armor Update!" Woo! So I was able to get a few things done the last couple days. The back plate that I need to modify for the Shadow Guard arrived: Stripes painted on the arms of the Nova: Got a couple coats of paint on my other pieces of Nova armor. So if all goes well, Maybe I'll have 3 costumes to put in the trading card run! Though the Shadow Guard may take longer than I thought. Still trying to figure out the staff. Anyways, I'm tired so I'm off to bed! Laters! -iz

The Novatrooper isn't 501st approved yet, we have the references at the Detachment, but no one has completed one to get the costume approved so a CRL can be finalized. I may be trooping in unofficial armor for a bit and only getting half points. But it will look so cool.... -iz

I tried to put a final coat on the bucket, but it was the end of the can and the uneven spray caused some runs, so I sanded it down and tried it again. The weather isn't the greatest, so it's in my garage with a space heater and we'll see how it turns out. Worse comes to worse, I sand it down and wait for a nicer day. I'm just hoping I can stripe it when the next good day comes around. However, it did seem to be nice enough to put the final coat on these: Once they were dry enough, I pulled them inside the house so they can sit in 68 degrees where it's dry so the paint can set. They might be ready to get their stripes early tomorrow afternoon. That would be sweet!

Nothing! I did absolutely nothing! Stupid! I'm so stupid!!!!
Yep I did nothing towards anything today. Well that's a lie. I found some small litter boxes that will work for the base of the pack. And yesterday I made the pack frame, so I guess I'm almost there. It's too miserable to paint though, and too cold to go outside to play with bondo. I'm still figuring out some other parts for the Nova's Backpack and the I guess I may just have to sit down and order some parts to play with.
Anyone know the best way to protect paint from tape when you mark a striping pattern? Should I wax it?
Oh yeah, if you read this Dusty, I'll be calling about getting some more ABS. I'm going to need it to prep the Nova build.

Not sure, I've had trouble with masking tape taking off other paint too. Are you able to coat your gold paint with clear coat ok? The couple metallic paints I've used all dissolve when sprayed with clear acrylic. Hoping what you're using works better.

It hasn't been taking off my paint, it's been leaving a texture, luckily I found this out when the paint job was botched anyway, so it wasn't the tape that forced the repaint. (That would have ticked me off!) Yeah, the clear coat is fine with the gold I'm using. I'm using a clear enamel. Everything is Rustoleum except the primer which is Krylon. I really have to take pictures of some stuff and post it. I have gotten a bit done, but it doesn't seem like it until there are progress pics up. -iz
