As some of you know I'm trying to figure out a way to overcome a screw-up or two on the white armor (Yes, the rumor is true. I do actually own a set, it's just not assembled).

My first step is to acquire a bit of extra white plastic. I've heard a few people mention that they know of a place that you can pick some extra scrap up from time to time but I've either never heard the name of it mentioned, or I've forgotten it. Would anyone out there know the name and / or location of this place per chance?

I'm happy to go pick it up myself. If anything comes of this and it turns out to be a good find it could be a valuable resource for others who could use it.

Which armor pieces do you need it for? I used $2.00 white trash cans from Walmart as the plastic to fill in the gaps in the sides of my armor.

I have some spare sheets from my tk kit if that helps. I have focused on my vader and it's 99% done.
Let me know. :D

I think I may have trimmed too much back on one of the calf pieces so I may need to add a shim. I don't want it to look off because I have really skinny calves compared to the rest of my body. If we're ever going to be at the same event I'll bring the piece and show you what I'm talking about. I've had some good suggestions from other people and they all require extra plastic. The garbage can material may work though.

The same goes for you too Dave. If we'll be at the same event we'll make arrangements. I'd appreciate the extra pieces if you're okay parting with them.

Having said all that I'd still like to know where the place (or places) is / are if anyone knows.

In Salt Lake, try Regional Supply. 3571 South 300 West 1-800-365-8920

They often sell scrap by the pound...

Thanks Shawn, I'll be making a trip out there as soon as I can. I'll post any information I find. Hopefully this can be a good resource.

I was just looking at trooperbay but I found some stuff you might need.

These blast points — too accurate for sandpeople. Only imperial stormtroopers are so precise

OK,

I called around to a few places and this is what I learned.

Regional Supply has white ABS plastic in 4' x 8' sheets. They sell it by the sheet for $27.16 and there is no scrap to be had so dumpster diving isn't an option. They also don't have anything in the .080" or .090". That is the thickness that Doug (jedi5150) said is what most of the legion has for their TK kits. Regional Supply has .060 and .125 but nothing in between. Special ordering isn't an option because we'd have to order it by the pallet. 50 sheets to a pallet would run about $2400. We really need a rich benefactor in the garrison.

They do have it in a .093 (ish) in black in case anyone is interested......*izzi* cough, cough.

Laird Plastics said they would be willing to price out some scrap for cheap but the thinnest gauge they have is .118. I suppose the next step is to take a trip there with some plastic to see if they can attempt to match it as best they can. I won't be able to get to that until sometime next week at the earliest.

I don't know how plastic strips of different thicknesses look when they're put together so I'm not sure about either route.

Aaron, thanks for the Trooperbay link. The only issue I have with that is there is no thickness listed for those strips so I'm not sure if $12 is worth it or not. I've emailed them to find out the thickness. Personally it seems a little pricey for 2 strips of 4 x 16 inches but it's good to have the option anyway in case others might need it.

I'm still looking around but any other information and / or suggestions is most welcome.

-LG

Just a thought, have you tried a local sign shop? They usually have scrap or they can cut to size what you need. Usually not too expensive. I have used them for projects in the past, when I couldn't find a local supply of sheet hobby plastic. It wasn't local though so I don't have a place to give you.

Thanks Seth, I'll look into that too.

Update on the Trooperbay strips: They are .070" thick.

That's not bad for that thickness don't you think ?
